Tragedy of Air India Flight 171 - Vedic Astrology Analysis

In this post, I will share the astrological signatures of the tragic day when Air India flight 171 crashed shortly after takeoff. You can read more about the event online, but here is a quick summary amalgamated from several online sources, including Reuters, The Times of India, The Indian Express, The Hindu, and BBC News:

Air India Flight 171

On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport, India, en route to London Gatwick, UK. The flight, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, reached a maximum altitude of 625 feet before losing contact with air traffic control and crashing into a residential area in Meghani Nagar, hitting a medical college hostel. The disaster killed 241 people on board and at least 28 on the ground, making it the deadliest aviation accident since Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in 2014. A single passenger, a 40-year-old British national seated in 11A near an emergency exit, survived with injuries. The crash, the first fatal incident involving a Boeing 787, is under investigation by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, with both black boxes recovered. Preliminary reports suggest possible engine failure or lift issues, as the plane’s landing gear remained down and wing flaps appeared misconfigured. Air India and Boeing are cooperating, and safety checks have been ordered for Air India’s 787 fleet. (Updated June 13, 2025)

Here is my observation of the energies for this moment, using the scheduled flight time. There is a significant confluence of malefic energies and all three Dusthatn houses were active, as well as the 2 Maraka (killer) houses and the 3rd house, which is considered a death house using the Bhavat Bavan technique. The 3rd house is the 8th house from the 8th.

The chart indicates a Ketu-Jupiter Dasha.

The malefic and challenging energies were prominent while the benefic energies were suppressed or heavily influenced by malefic planets, malefic house lords, or in a challenging house.

Lagna Mercury with Maraka 7th house lord Jupiter in 10th, Gemini, Air

• Mercury represents the physical body of the chart, and the 10th house of the world stage.

• Maraka houses mean Killer, the 2nd and 7th houses are maraka houses

• Mercury is connected to travel, quick flight

• Jupiter is connected to big things; this was a very large plane, an expansion-like explosion. 

• Gemini is associated with the 3rd house and short-distance travel

• Gemini is an Air sign, a movement

Maraka 2L Venus in 8th house Aries

• Maraka is a killer House; the 2L Venus is placed in the 8th house of sudden events, death, and tragedy.

• Aries is ruled by Mars, which is placed in the 12th house of loss, endings, and with Ketu, the shadow node of the moon that deals with loss and letting go. 

Bhavat Bavam 3L (Death of Death) Mars (Malefic) with Ketu in 12th

• The 3rd house is the 8th house from the 8th house and indicates death

• Mars rules the 3rd house and is in the 12th house of loss and endings

• Mars is a malefic planet that does harm 

• Mars is with Kety, the ruler of the current dasha of this chart

Ketu in 12H - Jupter (4/7) Dasha

• Ketu activates the 12th house of loss, and Mars, the ruler of the 3rd and 8th houses of death

• Jupiter rules the 7th maraka house and is joined by  the lagana Mercury in 10H

• 12L Mars rules Jupiter in Mrigishira

• Ketu is ruled by the Sun, 

• 12L Sun in Taurus ( final depositor is 12L) with Uranus (Airplanes)

• Ketu rules 2/9L Venus in Aswini

• 3/8L Mars in Magha ruled by Ketu

6L Saturn (malefic) in maraka 7th house

• 6th house of challenges in a killer house

Venus is 2/9L in 8th 

• Benefic is harmed

• Maraka lord, and the house of luck in the 8th house of death

Lagna Lord - Mercury in Ardra ruled by Rahu

• Ketu dasha activates the Rahu Ketu axis in 6/12

• Rahu is a malefic

ASC nakshatra lord is Moon, in Mula ruled by Ketu

• Activated by the Ketu Dasha

• Moon is also in Sag, ruled by the bhukti Jupiter

• Malefic influence on Ketus ruler, Sun, activated in Dasha,

• Uranus represents airplanes

• ASC receives malefic influence from Saturn

• Moon is 11L of gains, receives malefic influence, which Jupiter Bhukti activates.

• Maraka Lord with Lagna

• Expands the killer house

• Expands 4th house, moksha with moon 11L 

• Expands challenges, exaggerating Rahus' power, Aquarius indicates the people.

Fire and Air were the dominating Elements of the chart.

Mars was the strongest in Shadbala.

The 12th house has the lowest Ashtakvarga score, indicating a less likely occurrence of a beneficial event.

Saturn's tight aspect on Yogi Point, the luckiest point in the chart, is receiving a malefic aspect. 

Saturn and Jupiter squared, this is a western aspect, but shows difficult energies without ease or luck.

Rahu aspects Jupiter 4/7L and Laga Mercury

• Malefic influence on the benefic potential and intensifies Jupiter's expanding nature, and the Lagna, which is the physical body of the chart. 

Ketu aspects Moon 11L

• Indicates a lack of gains, detachment from achievement 

Notably, there was a sole survivor, but this is not indicated in the chart itself. I would need to see the natal chart of the survivor to do a proper analysis, but I would still refrain out of respect.

I hope this helps you see the power of Astrology and how, when there is a confluence of factors, events are manifested. It is easy to see these kinds of things in retrospect, but predicting such a specific event is extremely difficult, and certainly beyond my skill level.
